Abstract
Tetradentate Schiff base cobalt(¥±) complexes such as Co(¥±)©ü N, N-bis (salicylidene)-m-phenylendiimine: [Co(¥±)©ü(SMPD)©ü(H©ü0)©þ] and Co(¥±)©ü-N, N-bis (salicylidene) -p-phenylendiimine: [Co(¥±)©ü(SPPD)©ü(H©ü0)©þ], and oxygen adducted cobalt (¥²) complexes such as [Co(¥²)©üO©ü(SMPD)©ü(Py)©ü] and [Co(¥²)©üO©ü(SPPD)©ü(Py)z] in pyridine solutions were synthesized. It was identified that the oxygen adducted cobalt(¥²) complexes have hextacoordinated octahedral configuration with pyridine and oxygen from the measurement of elemental analysis, AA, IR spectra, and TGA. The redox processes were investigated for the oxygen adducted complexes in 0.1M TEAP-pyridine solution, using cyclic voltammetry on the glassy carbon electrode. The redox processes of oxygen adducted cobalt(¥²) complexes result in [Co(¥²)©ü-O©ü-Co(¥²)] e-->[Co(¥²)©ü-O©ü-Co(¥±)]e- -> [Co(II)-O©üCo(II)]e- ¢¢[Co(¥±)+Co(¥±)+O©ü-] e- ¢¢[Co(¥±)+Co(I)+O©ü]
